Matson is Executive Director of Pathways, a not for profit organization that supports communities with a variety of tools – including information systems, research and data analysis, and technical assistance and training – that help human services agencies work together, reduce costs and increase the impact of their services, so more people find the path to success. Matson came to Pathways from the nation’s largest nonprofit organization, where he coordinated housing and drug treatment services for a large metropolitan area.
Matson is also President of the National Human Services Data Consortium (NHSDC), a membership organization focused on developing effective leadership for the best use of information technology to manage human services. The NHSDC provides information, assistance, peer to peer education and lifelong learning to its membership and other interested parties in the articulation, planning, implementation and continuous operation of technology initiatives to collect, aggregate, analyze and present information regarding the provision of human services. Matson has been a member of the NHSDC board of directors since 2003.
Before entering the nonprofit world two decades ago, Matson was an award winning broadcast journalist.
